msnbc.com / Robb & Stucky starts furniture liquidation sale
March 11, 2011
TAMPA — The bankrupt Robb & Stucky furniture chain started a court-ordered liquidation sale of all inventory Friday, just hours after being bought in court by an investment fund that specializes in winding down bankrupt stores.
The sale of $90 million in inventory will effectively end 96 years in business for the Fort Myers upscale furniture seller, and shut down its location at International Plaza mall.
Like most retail shutdowns, this sale will likely follow the pattern of escalating discounts until all inventory, store fixtures and equipment are sold off. Company officials promoted the sale, noting the sale will include all its company's brand-name furnishings and accessories such as Ralph Lauren, Elements, Tommy Bahama, Paloma, Trump Home and Monterey, among others
